Blackmarston School is Herefordshire’s only purely primary special school for pupils with severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties including deaf/blind, autism and children who have limited mobility or are wheelchair reliant. Our age range is 2 to 11 and children are transported in daily from across the county.
We are a State funded school and during these very tight economic times, the school relies heavily on fundraising to supply the specialist equipment and activities that our children so desperately need. Due to family constraints, many of our families do not have access to the specialist vehicles, that our children need in order to explore local amenities.

As a school we like to ensure the children have the best opportunities to explore the outside world and activities that are currently inaccessible to them. Therefore our next project is to purchase a new school mini-bus. The specialist mini-bus needs to be wheelchair accessible with a tail lift and have movable seating to ensure room for all. As you can imagine a vehicle such as this is very expensive, but it would open up another world for our children.

We are a charity working in Herefordshire providing support and rehabilitation to people living with an acquired brain injury (including stroke) their families and carers.

After an initial introduction and assessment period, beneficiaries are guided to choose from our menu of activities to create a tailored programme to suit their individual needs and choices. Attending the centre provides the opportunity to regain confidence and make new friends, as well as develop practical life skills in a supportive environment.

The various activities are designed to be enjoyable but also to help individuals regain and maintain skills lost or impaired by the injury. Most importantly friendships form and the isolation that a brain injury can bring is left behind.

The Martha Trust Charity was established 20 years ago in Hereford to provide specialised nursing care for people with profound and multiple physical and intellectual disabilities. Martha House was the Charity’s first purpose-built home which opened in 1997. Each of our two homes has 14 single bedrooms and offers lifelong, respite and day care for children and adults.

The charity’s second home Sophie House, half a mile from Martha House, was opened in October 2012 and is located on the outskirts of Hereford near Hampton Bishop.

The Trustees felt compelled to build another home because of the overwhelming need for such facilities which exists nationwide. This was clearly reflected in the ever increasing demand for our beds. Both homes have a fully equipped therapy centre attached to them and this includes a hydrotherapy pool in each. Our homes have been designed focussing on the needs of our wheelchair dependant residents and we have incorporated all the necessary specialised equipment including hoists and adapted beds and baths. Each home is run by a large dedicated team of nursing, care and ancillary staff, delivering 1:1 care around the clock which is individually tailored to meet the needs of each resident.
