Members are drawn from Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire and a few from further afield and we are one of the few Sailability clubs that take children from the age of 7. The fleet has 27 sailing boats selected to provide stability to ensure safe sailing and there are opportunities to leisure sale, race locally and at a national level and internationally. The Laura Centre is a well-established charity, situated in the Heart of England and recognised nationally for its cutting edge approach and clinical excellence in the field of family bereavement. The Laura Centre is the sole project of the charity COPE, which was founded by Gail and Harry Moore. The Centre is named after our daughter Laura who died of Leukaemia in 1989. TLC opened its doors in October 1991. Since that time TLC has supported many thousands of bereaved parents, children, young people and their families. The charity embraces the vision that all bereaved families should be able to access high quality, open ended, bereavement counselling and therapeutic support to enable them to manage the impact of death on their lives.

Our approach is to offer a holistic package of care responding to the individual needs of those who are referred to us. The charity deals with anticipatory grief, end of life care and a whole spectrum of cause of death; 75% of the people we see will have experienced death of a sudden, complex, traumatic and unexpected nature including fatal accidents, suicide and murder. Our one to one bereavement counselling and therapeutic support to families is provided in a non-clinical setting and delivered by experienced professionally trained and qualified counsellors and psychotherapists. In addition we offer: places to remember (Quiet Room, memorial service), complementary therapies, mindfulness and well-being programmes and a walking group.

Warning Zone is a children’s charity local to Leicester. We support the social and personal development of children and provide them with vital skills to help keep them safe both online and offline. We aim to educate all Year 6 pupils (aged 10 / 11) from Primary, Independent and Special Schools within Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Our mission is to reduce the number of children and young people entering the criminal justice system and improve their life chances by increasing their understanding of risk and consequences and reducing the risk of accidental injury or death.

Year 6 pupils visit our unique facility on a school trip. Eight film-set ‘Safety Zones’ run alongside our ‘E-Safety Zone’. Our Safety Zones cover: Fire Risk in the Home, Electricity & Building Sites, Alcohol and Anti-Social Behaviour, Personal Safety, Water Safety, Arson & Criminal Damage, Road Safety, and Risk around Railways. Our E-Safety Zone has been designed as a retro-fairground and covers internet safety messages including: Online Grooming, Phishing, Cyber Bullying, Sharing Images, Privacy Settings and the importance of having a Trusted Adult. We do not receive any statutory funding from the council and rely solely on school contributions and generous donations made by local individuals, trusts, rotaries and businesses. We also rely on volunteers who give up their time to guide our pupils around our facility.
