Our charity offers hyperbaric oxygen, physiotherapy, reflexology treatments and vital support to members and their families/carers with MS, other neurological conditions, Cancer, Fibromyalgia and sports injury in the local area and rest of the West Midlands, Staffordshire and Shropshire. The Centre operates with a small team of part time staff (4) and volunteers (approximately 27). We help to support not only our members having treatments but offer valuable support and signposting services to carers and families.

We run a carers support group and have outside agencies, e.g. MS Nurses, Nutritionist, Chiropodist, Private Dental and more come to the Centre where members and their carers can get advice and have one to one support. We have to raise over £150,000 to be able to continue to provide services to our members. Some of our members would not see anyone through the week if our services didn’t exist so in effect can sometimes be a life-line to some and a point of early intervention when problems occur.

Midland Freewheelers is a voluntary service to the NHS to provide out of hours urgent delivery service for Bloods, Drugs and Equipment from any West Midlands Hospital to another Hospital or ancillary centres. The service we provide covers out of hours’ time, 7pm on Friday evening to 6pm Sunday evenings and includes 24 hours during bank holidays for all urgent collections and deliveries. We have carried out over 5000 successful deliveries to date. In the week day, we also offer our services to the Birmingham Women’s Hospital for the collection and delivery of urgent breast milk to Neonatal units within our region. We also are working with the Air Ambulance in conjunction with the NHS on a special clinical trial to deliver Blood to the Air Ambulance helicopter site (day time emergency service) & MERIT site (night time emergency service), three times per week on a regular basis and on ad hoc calls if necessary. The trial is to determine if on board blood transfusions can increases the chances of survival at the scene of an accident.

A successful outcome in a three years’ time will initiate a roll out towards the east coast of England. All riders or drivers hold an advanced certificate and undertake regular riding assessments. Prior to our free service, relevant wards or departments would use external deliveries such as taxi and commercial couriers. We have reduced these significant costs so that those monies can be spent on patient welfare and hospital betterment.

Staffordshire Women’s Aid is a charitable and voluntary organisation that has been providing services for women and children living with, fleeing or recovering from the impact of domestic and sexual violence since 1976.

Forty years on we remain a grass roots, user-led organisation, placing at the heart of our work the views of the communities we work with. We aim to support and empower women and children towards safer, more independent lives, free from violence and abuse by providing the following services:

• 24 Hour Helpline
• Refuge Accommodation
• Domestic Abuse Community Outreach Support Service
• Sexual Violence Community Outreach Support Service
• Children and Young People’s Support Service
• Training, Research and Awareness Raising

Demand for our services across Staffordshire continues to grow. In 2015-16 we received over 3,000 calls on our 24 hour helpline, accommodated 38 women and 52 children in our refuge, and worked with 754 adults and 140 children through our holistic range of community outreach services. While our work is situated within the violence against women and girls agenda, we also offer services to male victims of abuse which are appropriately provided in safe, separate venues.
