“If I need someone to talk to, I come to Dr M’z. If I need help with something that’s going on in my life, I come to Dr M’z and if I want to take part in something fun and useful that might help me get a job I come to Dr M’z”. Ben aged 20.
Dr M’z is a full time youth project, named after a local GP and Town and County Councillor, the late Dr Margaret Evans, that has been providing a place of safety for young people from Carmarthen for 20 years. The Centre provides a haven for them to meet and interact with other young people and supportive youth work staff. It was set up by young people and continues to give young people a voice empowering them to be involved in the decision making. We aim to increase confidence and self-worth, develop skills and support them to engage in their community. We have a Diner, a volunteering project, a gardening and cooking project and a well-being project within the Centre in order to provide new opportunities and support for the young people we work with. They develop skills and gain rewards for their participation. We work closely with specialist services, the local authority and other agencies to provide the young people we work with the comprehensive service they all deserve. Our aim is to give young people a better chance in life and a better experience of growing up.
