“If I need someone to talk to, I come to Dr M’z. If I need help with something that’s going on in my life, I come to Dr M’z and if I want to take part in something fun and useful that might help me get a job I come to Dr M’z”. Ben aged 20.

Dr M’z is a full time youth project, named after a local GP and Town and County Councillor, the late Dr Margaret Evans, that has been providing a place of safety for young people from Carmarthen for 20 years. The Centre provides a haven for them to meet and interact with other young people and supportive youth work staff. It was set up by young people and continues to give young people a voice empowering them to be involved in the decision making. We aim to increase confidence and self-worth, develop skills and support them to engage in their community. We have a Diner, a volunteering project, a gardening and cooking project and a well-being project within the Centre in order to provide new opportunities and support for the young people we work with. They develop skills and gain rewards for their participation. We work closely with specialist services, the local authority and other agencies to provide the young people we work with the comprehensive service they all deserve. Our aim is to give young people a better chance in life and a better experience of growing up.

It was set up in 1986 by a small group of local people to treat patients with Multiple Sclerosis in an Oxygen Chamber and to provide a welcoming environment for both patients and their families. Just over 30 years on we expanded our centre form one unit to three and we have a growing membership from all over Pembrokeshire whom we provide Physiotherapy for as well as Oxygen treatment.

We also now offer both treatments to a number of different conditions including Stroke, Parkinson’s and Diabetic Ulcers. We pride ourselves in being a friendly inviting centre for all people with life changing conditions and welcome any questions either over the phone or in person.

HUTS workshop has been established for over 20 years and supports individuals suffering with mental health issues and learning disabilities across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire. HUTS is a therapeutic arts based centre that provides so much more than ‘making things’ and currently we have over 100 active members attending the workshop. We aim to provide a supportive and friendly environment which helps to improve client’s quality of life, by increasing motivation, self-esteem and confidence. The therapeutic benefit of art also develops new skills and friendships.

The workshop provides a wide range of craft activities, including pottery, stained glass, mosaics, pyrography, painting, jewellery and card making. Woodcraft activities including walking sticks, furniture making and repairs. Members also enjoy photography, gardening, willow weaving, outings and being involved in local community projects. Life style skills such as Information Technology, cooking and healthy food preparation are available.

HUTS is a referral based organisation and we take referrals from GP’s, Community mental health teams, Occupational therapists, social services, professional bodies and many more. It is free to attend HUTS and all we ask is £1 per day for tea, coffee and biscuits.

HUTS ethos: If HUTS can’t support an individual in a specific area we ensure we find someone that can. This ensures that they are never ‘on their own’ in difficult and stressful times.

Welsh Hearts / Calonnau Cymru was set up with the primary aim to address the need for Public Access Defibrillators (PAD’s) throughout Wales. Since being established in 2013 we have installed over 500 defibrillators and trained over 18,000 in their use. These pad’s have been placed mainly in communities that have a traditionally high level of heart disease. Welsh Hearts also run ECG heart screening sessions with the objective of identifying undiagnosed heart issues before they become an issue.

We are a small charity supported by many volunteers and volunteer medical practitioners, the local community and many sports organisations.
