Get Support

Visiting Volunteers

Visiting Volunteers (VVs) are trained and vetted members of the masonic community who make confidential home visits to help people in their local area to complete an application for an MCF grant.  Each month, they support hundreds of people who are seeking support.

All of our VVs are either local Freemasons or closely related to a local lodge member. VVs come from a range of backgrounds and are carefully selected for their experiences and skills. Every single one goes through a vetting process, receives regular training on the MCF grant and application process and is bound by our rules of confidentiality.

We understand that making an application to the MCF can be a sensitive and daunting process. VVs are there to guide you through the process and support you with completing the application from, gathering supporting information and sending it to the Grants team.

David’s story

“I’ve recently become the Provincial Grand Almoner, and it’ll be my duty to look after the VVs that operate in Leicestershire. So far we have four of them, including a female mason.

You need a lot of empathy for people; when you visit someone at home, they need to feel confident in sharing some of their personal issues with you which helps you to understand their situation better. What I really enjoy is going to see people, engaging with people, and particularly once they’ve opened up to me, for them to feel that I’ve been there to support and help them – often at a time of personal struggle.”
