Daily living costs, Support for Freemasons and families
Alan’s story

Alan has been a dedicated Freemason for many years, which has always been a source of pride and purpose in his life. But when a marriage breakdown and a change in life circumstances left him struggling to support his children, Alan found himself facing challenges he never expected.
“I had always associated the MCF with helping others, but at first, I was too proud to reach out,” Alan reflected. “Eventually, I realised I couldn’t do it alone – and I am so glad I picked up the phone.”
Alan decided to give our Enquiry line a call. From the very first conversation, Alan felt reassured. “Every member of the team was compassionate and understanding. They really listened as I explained my situation,” he said. Soon after, Alan was connected with a grants officer who guided him through the support available.
Following a successful application, Alan received financial support. The help came at exactly the right time:
It proved invaluable – not just financially, but emotionally too. It lifted a huge weight off my shoulders, gave me peace of mind for my children, and allowed me to start looking ahead with hope again. It wasn’t just a financial gift; it improved my mental health and outlook on life.
But the support didn’t stop there. Alan was also signposted to other services and organisations that could help support him in other way. Following this, he felt a reinforced sense of security and care from the MCF team.
Life is full of unpredictable twists and turns, but thanks to the MCF, I am in a much better place now. I will never forget the help I was given. If any brother is unsure about reaching out, I would urge them to take that step – the MCF exists for us, and it has been a truly invaluable service for me and my family.
Looking to the future, Alan is determined to give back. “I have a long Masonic career ahead of me, and I will do all I can to be an ambassador for the MCF. The help I received has been life-changing, and I want to ensure others know that support is there when they need it most.”
