Impact

In September 2019, we donated £20,000 to UNICEF to support survivors Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas.

As many as 13,000 houses were severely damaged or destroyed, which left around 17,000 children and their families in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.  The hurricane also caused damage to health facilities and water and sanitation infrastructure, which brought a heightened risk of disease.

Whilst the official death toll was declared to be 70, hundreds more people remain missing and were likely killed by the disaster.

This grant provided humanitarian aid to affected children and families, with a special focus on water, sanitation and hygiene.

In addition to the MCF’s donation, Freemasons from the District Grand Lodge of Bahamas and Turks – with support from the Grand Lodge of Florida – coordinated a local relief effort to supply water, food and other resources to the affected areas.
