The long-anticipated Tandem Parachute Jump for Yorkshire North & East Ridings Festival 2029 took place on Saturday 27 July, after being postponed earlier in the month due to poor weather. Under clear skies and with an enthusiastic crowd of supporters watching from the ground, 11 courageous Freemasons took to the air, each making a successful jump and safe landing.

The event drew wonderful support from family, friends, and fellow brethren, with the Provincial Grand Master, W Bro. David Chambers, and Festival Chairman, W Bro. Martin Eggermont, leading the way. In total, 11 Freemasons took on the challenge, each working tirelessly to raise funds for their Festival.

Among the day’s most inspiring moments was Ray Chapman of Helmsley Lodge No. 7075, who proved that age is just a number by jumping at 81 years old. His achievement was met with resounding applause and admiration from all on the ground.

The 11 Freemasons who completed their tandem jumps are:

  • John Murphy – Falcon Lodge No. 1416
  • David Johnson – Peace Lodge No. 3936
  • Justin Milburn – Peace Lodge No. 3936
  • Stuart Younger Cooper – Dundas Lodge No. 7970
  • Tony Stevenson – Hazel Grove Lodge No. 6542
  • Chris Clay – Lennox Lodge No. 123
  • Ray Chapman – Helmsley Lodge No. 7075
  • Dave Tunstall – Alexandra Lodge No. 1511
  • Mike Coates – Ridings Tablers Lodge No. 9586
  • Jimmy Kerr – De La Pole Lodge No. 1605
  • Jon Pinkney – St John of Bridlington Lodge No. 4434

Together, the jumpers have raised over £8,000 so far, a remarkable total that will provide vital support to individuals and families in need through the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF, the Freemasons’ charity). Donations came from across the Province and beyond, demonstrating the generosity within the community.

Looking ahead, the success of this year’s event has already inspired plans for a repeat in 2026 – at least four brethren have already expressed their wish to take part

We’d like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who jumped, donated, or turned out in support. The incredible fundraising effort is a testament to the power of community spirit, proving what can be achieved when people come together for a good cause.
