After Tara, daughter of a single mum, was accepted into Italia Conti theatre academy, she knew she needed to seek funding support.

Tara learned that the school fees were £12,500 per year and took to her local library to research charities who could offer support. Her mother informed her that her grandad was a member of the Shoeburyness lodge in Essex, meaning that Tara was eligible for support from the MCF.

The charity provided me with funding for my course which covered the fees, and also offered me accommodation in Ruspini House in Parker Street. I had my own room and it was the best three years of my life! My rent was subsidised so I could afford to live in London as well as train for my dream career.

“Without the RMTGB I wouldn’t have been able to train at Italia Conti (one of the top drama schools in the UK) and therefore pursue a career I love!” – Tara

Tara has so far worked for: Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland Paris, P & O cruises, Shopping TV (as a Presenter), Dick Whittington Pantomime at the Exeter corn exchange, Wonder Woman at Warner Brothers world Abu Dhabi, Princess Fiona at Shreks Adventure, London and also the Frozen singalong UK tour. She moved back to London in summer 2019 in the hope to focus on acting and a career in television.

I would like to thank the MCF for their TalentAid programme which allowed me to train at Italia Conti in London and pursue my ambition of being a performer. Without its support I would never have been able to live in London and receive the training needed to achieve my dream. I owe the MCF (and my grandad) a lifetime of thanks.
